Danielle Opitz Is September DAISY Individual Award Winner
Published: Sept. 10, 2015Danielle Opitz, BSN, RN, a nurse on the Methodist Hospital Progressive Care Unit, was honored at a recognition ceremony on Thursday, September 10, as the September DAISY Award winner for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women's Hospital.
She was nominated for the honor by the Palliative Care team, whose members praised her patient advocacy and "persistent efforts to give our patients the best quality of life at the end of life."
One example cited was of Danielle making safe and special arrangements to grant a dying patient's wish for a visit from his beloved pit bull.
Another example was her proactive role in obtaining an additional physician consult for a noninvasive reduction in facial swelling that enabled a patient to once again see his wife and children.
