Appointments Available for Free Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Screenings: April 12 & 14
Published: April 7, 2016Appointments are still available for two free public screenings for head and neck cancers. Use one of these opportunities to meet with a physician, identify your risk factors and obtain information on preventive measures. Preregistration is required. Call to schedule a screening at either of these two convenient locations:
NEBRASKA MEDICINE - NEBRASKA MEDICAL CENTER
Tuesday, April 12, 3-6 p.m.
Free valet parking is available in the circle drive of the Lied Transplant Center’s main entrance just west of 42nd and Emile Streets. A volunteer will escort you to the screening and back to your car. To schedule an appointment, call (800) 922-0000.
METHODIST ESTABROOK CANCER CENTER, 8303 Dodge St.
Thursday, April 14, 4-6 p.m.
Free valet parking is available at the east entrance to Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, just south of Methodist Hospital on the 84th and Dodge Street campus. From Dodge Street, access the east entrance by taking the lower drive in the front of Methodist Hospital. To schedule an appointment, call (402) 354-5850.
More than 118,000 new cancers involving the head and neck region will be diagnosed in 2016, and nearly 14,000 patients will die of head and neck cancers this year. Know the risk factors, signs and symptoms:

- Smoking
- Chewing tobacco
- Drinking alcohol
- Prior cancer in the region
- Multiple sex partners
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
- Mouth sore that doesn’t heal
- Sore throat
- Difficulty swallowing
- Change in voice
- Painless lump in the neck
