Jodi Hayes, RN, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner from the SANE/SART department, was honored at a recognition ceremony on Tuesday, May 17, as the May DAISY Award winner for Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women's Hospital. Jodi also works on the Short Stay Unit at Methodist Hospital.

She was nominated for the honor by a patient who wrote, "Jodi was placed there by God, I think. I would have died without her."

The patient is one of the many survivors of sexual assault or domestic assault treated through Methodist's Heidi Wilke SANE/SART Survivor Program, available 24/7 at Methodist Hospital and Methodist Women's Hospital.

"My husband strangled me and tried to kill me," the patient wrote. "Jodi gave me a reason to live. She explained everything and was kinder to me than I have ever been treated by anyone. Please make sure she gets recognized. She saved my life."

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. Nurses can be nominated by anyone, including patients, family members, physicians, supervisors or their peers.
