Susan Jasman - Methodist Women's Hospital Employee of the Quarter
Published: July 1, 2017Susan Jasman, a Volunteer Services Gift Shop/Breastfeeding Boutique Specialist, is the Methodist Women’s Hospital Employee of the Quarter for 3rd Quarter 2017. She was honored at a recognition ceremony on May 16.
Susan was nominated for the honor by a member of the Methodist Volunteers in Partnership leadership team, who praised Susan for "always going above and beyond for our patients, co-workers and volunteers."
The nominator wrote, "Susan makes each patient feel special while they are talking to her about their specific needs. She never hesitates to come in early, stay late or do anything extra that is needed for our team. She takes a special interest in getting to know each of our volunteers, whether it is remembering their birthdays, significant events or just being there for them. When one volunteer was going through a particularly rough time in her life, Susan spent a lot of time talking with her and bringing in special materials to help her through this."
Of special significance, the nominator noted, is the way Susan "complements our volunteer department in helping to make our volunteers and patients feel more special and valued."
A member of the Gift Shop team shared additional insights into the contributions Susan makes, explaining, "Every day Susan greets patients with the same friendly smile and warm welcome, whether they are the first or last one she sees for the day. Sometimes a patient or visitor can be overcome with emotion, and Susan will immediately know what to do by handing them a tissue, giving them a hug, or listening intently on what they have to say. I have seen on many occasions these people leave feeling better than when they arrived.
"Occasionally, when a patient's insurance does not cover a needed breastfeeding item and there are financial concerns, Susan will think of alternatives that will assist them while being mindful of the business side of the hospital. She makes getting breast pumps and supplies simple and quick for the customer. Every day I hear at least one customer say, 'Thank you! Wow, that was easy!'
"Susan's kindness, compassion and thoughfulness are just a few words that define her character. She exemplifies the true Meaning of Care."
