Financial Success Program - Free Research Study to Determine Health Effects of Financial Education in Single Working Mothers

Through the grant-funded Financial Hope Collaborative at Creighton University, eligible MHS employees may participate in the study and receive two free clinic visits and nine weeks of financial education.

Main research criteria, but not limited to:

• Single/unmarried mother with at least one dependent child
• Between the ages of 19-55
• Mother cannot be pregnant or planning to become pregnant
• Mother must be working 
• Earning up to 200 percent of Federal Poverty level (about $40,000 for a family of three)

Program Details

• The research study is a randomized study, to allow for comparison of a control group and an intervention group. 
• All participants will be enrolled in the research component of the program, which will last for one year. 
  • The participants will be required to attend two free clinic visits, which will be during month one and month 12, compensation for time and travel will be $50 for each visit. 
• The participants will be randomly selected to participate in one of two research tracks:
  • Those in track one will only be enrolled in the research study for one year. 
  • Those in track two will be enrolled in the research study and the free nine week Financial Success Program class, with one year of coaching. 
• Although the research team needs to collect needed data for the study, they do not want to hinder participants’ success. 
  • Therefore, if the participants are not chosen to be in track two, which includes the intervention (Financial Success Program class) they will be guaranteed a seat in one of the nine week Financial Success Program classes, with one year of coaching during year two.
