According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., killing approximately 600,000 Americans per year. Cardiac rehabilitation offers patients with heart disease a comprehensive individualized program of supervised exercise, with an emphasis on health education covering a variety of topics such as:
- Lifestyle behavior modification
- Physical activity
- Heart healthy nutrition
- Stress management
The Methodist Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation staff at Methodist Hospital - made up of RNs, RTs and exercise specialists - work with an average of 150 outpatients per week, as well as seeing approximately 65 inpatients. The benefits of exercise based cardiac rehab include:
- Reduced cardiovascular mortality and morbidity
- Fewer readmissions to the hospital
- Improvement in exercise capacity
- Improvement in psychological well-being
- Improved quality of life
Methodist Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Methodist Hospital is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., and is located on 3 South.
Methodist Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., and is located on the hospital's first floor.
