Gracie Osborn and Kate Holbrook Honored With Good Catch Awards
Published: May 31, 2021The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.
This recognition is presented monthly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.
Good Catch Award Recipients
Gracie Osborn and Kate Holbrook
Methodist Women's Hospital
Gracie Osborn, RN, and Nebraska Methodist College alumna Kate Holbrook, RN, were recently honored with Good Catch Awards. Both registered nurses work on the Mother/Baby Unit at Methodist Women's Hospital.
"A baby who was super spitty and a poor feeder was in the nursery all night getting bottles. Gracie Osborn was the nursery RN that night and was attempting to feed the baby. She continued to spit up, and formula came through baby's nose, which prompted Kate Holbrook, RN, to question if baby had a cleft palate. With further assessment, Osborn and Holbrook found baby to have an opening on the roof of her mouth toward the back. This was a good catch done by these ladies with great assessment skills, communication and teamwork."
Congratulations, Gracie and Kate! Thank you for your commitment to keeping our patients and staff safe.
