The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced last week that a booster dose at least 6 months after the completion of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination is recommended as the nation and community continues its efforts against COVID-19.

The booster guidelines impact those 65 and older, those 50-64 with underlying medical conditions and those 18-64 whose occupational or institutional settings increase their risk of transmission or exposure, such as health care workers.

Methodist Health System is encouraging anyone who meets these requirements to proceed with getting the vaccine at any of our community partner locations. The booster is recommended but not required. Proof of receiving the booster dose will be required and needs to be submitted to Employee Health if received outside of the health system.

Methodist is in the planning stages of hosting booster clinics upon the completion of current flu shot clinic efforts. This will likely be the week of Oct. 11.

These clinics will be hosted only at locations that distributed the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine – Methodist Hospital, Methodist Women’s Hospital and Methodist Fremont Health.

A sign-up process for the booster dose will be announced and available next week.

There is still planning being done, but Methodist leadership wanted employees to be aware that efforts for boosters are underway.
