Erica Lopez Honored With Good Catch Award
Published: April 26, 2022The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.
This recognition is presented monthly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.
Good Catch Award Recipient
Erica Lopez, BSN, RN
Progressive Care
Methodist Hospital
"Erica was pulling out sublingual Ativan to give to a patient. The prescribed dose was 0.5 mg/0.25 ml. The syringes she pulled out were filled with different doses – 0.19 ml and 0.22 ml. Erica triple-checked the syringes and had the core check the syringes before even thinking about administering them to the patient. She called pharmacy and got the correct dosage of Ativan loaded into the Omnicell promptly for her patient."
Congratulations to Erica, a Nebraska Methodist College graduate! Thank you for your commitment to keeping our patients and staff safe.
