Julie Krska Honored With Good Catch Award
Published: July 11, 2022The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.
This recognition is presented monthly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.
Good Catch Award Recipient
Julie Krska, NNP
NICU
Methodist Women's Hospital
"Julie went to pull a PICC Line tray from a procedure cart to place a PICC on a patient. She noted that the PICC tray had an expiration date of 8-31-2021. This procedure cart was used on the evening of 6-10-2022 for other PICCs on the unit, and the drawer was emptied at this time. This PICC tray would have been pulled from the equipment room on 6-10-22 to restock our current procedure cart. The PICC tray was discarded, and a new one – that wasn't expired – was obtained prior to the start of the procedure."
Congratulations, Julie! Thank you for your commitment to keeping our patients and staff safe.
