The Core of What We Do: Dr. Thomas Wolf believes learning about his patients’ lives is the best part of primary care
Published: April 19, 2024In “The Core of What We Do,” you’ll learn more about Methodist’s core service lines – primary care, oncology, cardiology, women’s health and orthopedics/surgical services – and the people whose dedication makes them so impactful for our communities.
Thomas Wolf, MD
Family Medicine Physician
Methodist Physicians Clinic at Prairie Fields in Fremont
Why is this service line so important?
Primary care is fundamental to the well-being of the communities we serve. At any age, our patients seek care from family medicine providers to learn more and improve their health. We’re here to serve patients for all of their health concerns. I want to be each patient’s partner in making choices to improve how they feel. Oftentimes, educating patients can help improve habits that translate into direct health benefits.
What do you enjoy about your work?
I’m grateful to care for patients from birth to death and be involved in their lives. I really enjoy taking care of families. Primary care has a lot of variety, but getting to know about my patients’ lives is the most enjoyable part.
Are there any memorable moments from your work that stick out?
I was involved in a baby’s delivery that was complicated by hydrocephalus. She had to be delivered via C-section at Methodist Fremont Health. She has required some specialized care and support through her life, and she continues to grow into a wonderful young lady. I enjoy getting to see her intermittently in the office. Seeing how well she is doing is very exciting.
Why did you come to Methodist? Why have you stayed?
I've served as a primary care provider in Fremont since 2006. The clinic I've been with joined Methodist at the beginning of 2020, and shortly thereafter the COVID pandemic began. The past few years have been challenging for many, but the support from Methodist has been tremendous, which helps me deliver quality care to my patients. I feel empowered to advocate for the well-being of my patients, and that’s why I want to continue working for Methodist.
What does The Meaning of Care mean to you?
The Meaning of Care to me means doing my absolute best with the patient I’m caring for at that moment. All of our lives get busy, but to listen and help them work through their health challenges together is very rewarding.
What’s the best thing about your role at Methodist?
I love the variety. I’m blessed to be working with a great team, which allows us to help so many patients. I really appreciate the cooperation between primary care and the specialists in our community.
What do you enjoy outside of your time at Methodist?
Outside of work I love to spend time with my family and friends. My wife and I spend much of our time with our two busy children and their activities. I enjoy traveling and Husker athletics. I find it rewarding to volunteer my time with St. Patrick Catholic Church and Bergan Catholic schools in Fremont.
