Karisa Stover honored with Making a Difference Award for work as nurse preceptor

The monthly Making a Difference Award honors a preceptor who makes an impact on a new nurse training at Methodist Hospital or Methodist Women’s Hospital. While completing an evaluation of their preceptor, each new nurse has the opportunity to submit a nomination for the Making a Difference Award.

The award was inspired by the tale of the starfish, which emphasizes how even one simple act can make a difference for someone else.

Karisa Stover, BSN, RN, a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Methodist Women's Hospital, was honored with the Making a Difference Award for May 2024. She was nominated by new nurse Mandie Montag, who wrote:

“Although she is a very experienced nurse and has immense knowledge, she is extremely approachable and meets everyone where they are at with respect and encouragement. Karisa consistently provided excellent feedback during my entire orientation. She discussed areas I could improve on and mentioned areas where she felt I was strong in. Karisa did such a good job transitioning me into being more independent because she did not take over situations, but she would stand behind me (or beside me) and remind me or just say what was next if she felt I needed it as I was doing things. ... I cannot say enough how grateful I am to have had Karisa as my preceptor. She went above and beyond to get to know me and how I learn best. I truly admire her and am grateful.”
