Registration open for Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge; competition begins Oct. 7
Published: Sept. 4, 2024Registration is now open for the American Cancer Society’s Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge, and Methodist is excited to be participating again.
The challenge begins Monday, Oct. 7, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 27. The goal is for each participant to run or walk 60 miles during that time.
So lace up your shoes and join us to help reduce your cancer risk and raise funds for the Hope Lodge and the American Cancer Society!
As part of the challenge, Methodist will make a donation to the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Omaha. Hope Lodge provides free lodging for patients traveling from across the region and is utilized by Methodist's cancer programs in Omaha, Council Bluffs and Fremont.
Why join the challenge?
We know that nearly half of all cancer deaths are causes by risk factors like smoking, excess weight and physical inactivity.
The Fit2Be Cancer Free Challenge is a virtual step-tracking fitness event that helps promote cancer prevention. Through this friendly competition with your Methodist coworkers, we can take steps to live healthier and lower our cancer risk.
How does it work?
When you join the challenge, you’ll be competing against employees at your affiliate location for prizes, bragging rights and a place on the "medal podium."
Each week, the top stepper at each affiliate will receive a prize. Each affiliate will also award a grand prize to its top stepper for the entire challenge. And the overall top three steppers across Methodist will receive gold, silver and bronze prizes.
The first 1,500 employees who register and participate in the challenge will receive a free gift.
Participation in this challenge is voluntary. Be sure to check with your primary care provider prior to starting any exercise regimen or physical activity.
Please note: Participants may win a weekly prize only once. However, weekly winners are eligible for grand prizes.
