Important Changes to Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification

The American Academy of Pediatrics has published the eighth edition of the “Textbook of Neonatal Resuscitation.” The current seventh edition will be transitioned to the eighth edition for all online course work and for the hands-on testing.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2022, the seventh edition will no longer be acceptable for any online course work or to use for hands-on testing. If your Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate will expire in November or December of 2021, it’s vital that you complete the online coursework and hands-on testing now. There are still dates available for the hands-on testing this year, but space is limited.

If you have requested online coursework but haven’t started it and aren’t due to renew until January 2022 or after, please don’t start the online coursework. The seventh-edition coursework won’t transition to the new eighth edition, and you’ll need to complete the eighth-edition online coursework.

If your NRP won’t expire until January 2022 or after, wait for the eighth-edition online coursework to complete the first step of NRP training. This transition is in the works, but at this time, there isn’t a specific date of transition for the online coursework.

Again, the current edition of he NRP book will soon be replaced with the most updated version. Your current online assignment is utilizing the seventh edition, which will no longer be available. Starting on Jan. 1, 2021, all online course work and in person testing will be using the eighth edition.
