A message from Paula Pittman, vice president of human resources

It’s time for your voices to be heard. We have an exciting opportunity coming soon that will allow you to share your opinion on compensation and benefits, also known as Total Rewards. If you aren’t familiar with the term, “total rewards” is a broad label for everything of value that you gain as a result of your employment. This includes your compensation, benefits, culture and recognition programs.

On May 15, we are launching a Total Rewards survey for all employees. We heard what you had to say in the employee engagement survey, and we want to better understand what you value with Total Rewards so we can take actionable steps toward improvement.

While we feel we are competitive in the market, we know we still have opportunities to improve and enhance our Total Rewards package. This will be your chance to shape the future of compensation and benefits in our organization.

On May 15, you’ll receive an email directly from Qualtrics (noreply@qualtrics-survey.com) in conjunction with Lockton, our employee benefits consultant. That email, with the subject line Methodist Health System total reward survey opens today, will include a link that’s unique to you. For employees who aren’t regular email users, a general survey link and/or QR code will be provided via paper notification and also on Employee Connections.

The survey, developed by Lockton, will use a methodology you may not have seen before. It will feature a series of choices in which you will be able to select package A vs. package B. Within each will be a list of offerings, some of which are realistic and others that aren’t. The answers you choose will help us determine what you prefer and value most.

If a majority of our nearly 8,000 employees select certain components/preferences, we’ll have a clear understanding that they are valuable to our people. This is a tried-and-true methodology and standard practice in the benefits industry.

The survey will also include an open comment section for you to share additional feedback.

The survey will be open from May 15 to 11 p.m. on May 26.

The anonymous data will be sent directly to Lockton, which will analyze and compare the information against industry standards and benchmarks. Lockton will also provide a full report of results and recommendations, which will be shared with executive leadership in the coming months. We’ll also share this information with you.

Do I anticipate, based on the survey results, changes in our Total Rewards offerings? Yes, but such changes may take time to implement. We must do all that we can to maintain our existing workforce while attracting those who are new to the job market.

We’re excited to hear from you. We value the work you do every day and the way you care for our neighbors, colleagues and our community. Our workforce is strong, and we want to continue to strengthen it. Help us make that happen today and for years to come.
