UPDATED: Affordable Care Act - Form 1095-C
Published: Feb. 8, 2017The 1095-C will provide information regarding your eligibility and participation in the health care plan. Information from the 1095-C is used when filing your taxes for the previous year.
The IRS has announced the deadline for distributing the 1095-C to employees has been moved from January 31, 2017, to March 2, 2017.
What does this mean to you?
You do not need to wait for the 1095-C to file your taxes for 2016. Once you receive your W-2 for 2016, you may file your taxes.
UPDATE: What other proof of insurance coverage is acceptable?
You can use other forms of documentation that would provide proof of your insurance coverage. Examples of other documents would be:
- Insurance cards
- Explanation of benefits (EOB)
- W-2 or payroll stubs reflecting health insurance deductions
If you file your 2016 taxes prior to receiving your 1095-C, you do not need to refile once you receive the form.
You will, however, want to keep the 1095-C with your tax records for the year.
