MWH Low Intervention Birth Suite
Coming soon is a Low Intervention Birth Suite in room 2201. The goal of the Natural Birth Suite is to provide a natural birth experience within Methodist Women’s Hospital’s Labor & Delivery department. This allows women the ability to choose a minimal intervention and minimal technology approach to childbirth. This suite will have a queen size bed with a more home like feel for our population of birthing persons that desire a low-intervention birth. L&D will be purchasing sound machines and massages tools that all patients can utilized to enhance their birth experience.
The mother-baby dyad will be admitted to the Mother/Baby Unit for postpartum care. Assessments, interventions, newborn screening, education and discharge follow-up, will follow the established standard of care.
L&D nurses will attend a mandatory in-person class that looks at how we approach birth. Focusing on respecting birth choices/decisions, refrain from threats and causing duress, and creating a pleasant experience for both patient and caregivers. Nurses will be educated on taking the time to educate families, promote normal physiological birth all while consistently explaining and asking for consent and permission. If you have any questions please contact Dr. Tifany Somer-Shely or Bobbi Curry.
